Why? IT CAN SAVE YOU MONEY!!!!!! Dig out a copy of your contract when you purchased your vehicle. Some charges are on the contract, others are not. Either way, you may be entitled to a refund or credit on your car loan. By signing on the dotted line, you are agreeing to DO certain things-not intend to do them.

1. Due date. Signing on the dotted line says, "My full payment will be at the finance company on or before the due date." If your due date is the 25th and your make your payment on the 26th, THE PAYMENT IS LATE.

2. Grace period. The period after your due date finance company is willing not to charge you a late fee. Some contracts have no grace period.

3. Late fee. I have seen late fees in excess of $50 per month. Know the late fee before you sign the contract.

4. Interest accrual. Normally, interest accrues daily and is based on the principle balance.

5. Return check fees. Check your state laws and the contract. This is one area you never want to trust what the dealer says.

More great information about vehicle contracts

http://youtu.be/IJYfmIYxNV0

They want to take my car....what should I do??

If the debt collector asks you to clean out the car because they are coming to get it, you may want to take his or her advice.

1. If you have poor money management skills, FIX THEM NOW!!! Besides the car being taken away, your credit will be dragged with it. Consequences may include judgments, garnishments, and a lien on your home. Take lunch, eat beans, and shop the local newspaper for sales, second job, liquidate savings, yard sale, or anything else you can think of to keep the car.

2. Ask for a deferment. You may have to pay the interest for the month, but you will make the problem worse.

3. Call the creditor. Tell them why you cannot pay and how you plan to address the issue. The worse thing you can do is not communicate with the agency that loaned you the funds. Financial institutions are happy to work with you IF YOU HAVE A WORKABLE PLAN.

4. After one to three consecutive months of non-payment, you are running out of options. Your best option at that point is to work with the creditor and find a way to at least pay full installment each month.
